Texas Fly Fishing Journal

Terms of Service

Last updated: October 15, 2026 · Version 2.3

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Texas Fly Fishing Journal (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App. We may update these terms at any time; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

2. Limitation of Liability

Texas Fly Fishing Journal is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for:

  • Misidentified fish species or incorrect length estimates produced by AI features
  • Fishing regulation violations resulting from reliance on the App
  • Inaccurate or outdated regulation data displayed in the App
  • Catch patterns, trends, or actions suggested by the Pattern Insights feature that prove inaccurate or unhelpful
  • Trip destinations, water rankings, or fly recommendations generated by the AI Trip Planner or Waterbody Matchmaker that do not result in the expected fishing conditions or success
  • Trip summaries generated by the AI Trip Debrief feature that are inaccurate or incomplete
  • Gear recommendations produced by the AI Gear Suggestion feature that prove unsuitable
  • Injuries, property damage, or losses occurring while fishing
  • Data loss due to technical failures, errors, or outages
  • Any decisions made based on information provided by the App

3. No Guarantee of Accuracy

The App includes AI-assisted features that may produce incorrect results. You are solely responsible for independently verifying any output before acting on it.

Fish Species Identification

Species identification can be affected by photo quality, lighting, angle, fish condition, and the inherent limitations of AI models. Always verify species independently before harvest, reporting to authorities, or taking any legal or safety-related action.

Fish Length Estimation

AI-generated length estimates are approximations based on visual analysis. Estimates may be inaccurate due to camera angle, perspective, reference objects, or image quality. The "Verified Length" badge on the leaderboard indicates that the AI estimate was consistent with the logged length — it is not an official measurement.

Fishing Regulations

Regulation data displayed in the App (bag limits, size limits, seasons) is provided for general reference only. Regulations change and the App may not reflect the most current rules. Always verify current regulations directly with Texas Parks & Wildlife (tpwd.texas.gov) before fishing. You are solely responsible for compliance with all applicable laws.

Pattern Insights

The Pattern Insights feature uses AI to analyze your logged catch history and surface patterns and suggested actions. Insights are generated solely from data you have entered into the App — sparse, incomplete, or inaccurate logs will produce less reliable results. AI-generated patterns are not expert fishing advice and may not reflect real-world fish behavior, seasonal variation, or local conditions not captured in your logs. Treat insights as one data point among many, not as a guarantee of future fishing success.

AI Trip Planner

The AI Trip Planner generates water recommendations, confidence ratings, and fly suggestions based on AI analysis of historical catch data. These recommendations are not real-time assessments of current conditions, fish presence, water access, or weather. Always independently verify access, current conditions, and applicable regulations before your trip. Confidence ratings reflect AI-estimated suitability based on available data only and are not a guarantee of fishing success. Fly recommendations are AI-generated suggestions and are not a substitute for local knowledge or professional guide advice.

Waterbody Matchmaker

The Waterbody Matchmaker ("Find a Spot Now") uses AI to rank nearby waters based on their type, distance, and available streamflow data. It is not a real-time assessment of current conditions, fish presence, water access, or public/private status. Always independently verify legal access, current conditions, and applicable regulations before visiting a recommended water.

AI Trip Debrief

The AI Trip Debrief generates a summary of a logged trip using only the data you entered. Summaries may misstate or omit details and are provided for convenience only — your own logs remain the authoritative record of your trip.

AI Gear Suggestion

The AI Gear Suggestion feature recommends gear from your inventory based on AI analysis of conditions and target species. Recommendations are suggestions only and are not a substitute for your own judgment, local knowledge, or professional guide advice.

4. Your Responsibilities

By using the App, you agree to:

  • Follow all applicable federal, state, and local fishing regulations
  • Independently verify species identification before harvest or reporting
  • Verify current regulations directly with TPWD before fishing
  • Treat AI-generated outputs — including Pattern Insights, Trip Planner and Waterbody Matchmaker recommendations, Trip Debrief summaries, Gear Suggestions, species identifications, and length estimates — as supplemental information, not authoritative advice
  • Provide accurate information when logging catches and creating your account
  • Ensure that catch data and photos you submit to the leaderboard are genuine
  • Keep your sign-in credentials (magic link email) secure
  • Not use the App on behalf of anyone under 13 years of age

5. Leaderboard & User Content

The App includes an optional public leaderboard. Participation is entirely voluntary.

Opting in

By enabling the leaderboard in Settings, you grant Texas Fly Fishing Journal a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display your catch data — including your display name, species, length, and catch photo — publicly within the App and on its website. You represent that any catch you submit to the leaderboard is genuine: the photo is of a real fish you caught, and the logged length is accurate.

Integrity and moderation

Leaderboard entries are subject to automated AI verification and human moderation. We reserve the right to remove any entry that appears fraudulent, manipulated, or in violation of these Terms — without prior notice. Repeated violations may result in account suspension.

Opting out

You may opt out of the leaderboard at any time in Settings. Your entries will be removed from the public leaderboard. The license granted above terminates when your entries are removed or your account is deleted.

6. Pro Purchase, Billing & Refunds

Billing

  • Pro is sold as a one-time purchase that grants lifetime access to Pro features for the account that made the purchase. There is no recurring subscription, and nothing will renew automatically.
  • Payment is processed by the platform you buy on: Apple on iOS, Google Play on Android, and Stripe on the web. We never receive or store your full card details.
  • Pro entitlements are tied to the account that made the purchase. iOS users can re-enable Pro on a new device via the Restore Purchases option.
  • We reserve the right to change the price of new purchases at any time. Existing lifetime purchases are not affected by future price changes.

Refunds

  • iPhone and iPad (App Store): Apple processes the payment, so refunds are requested from and decided by Apple under its refund policy. We cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Android (Google Play): Google processes the payment, so refunds are requested from and decided by Google under the Google Play refund policy. We cannot issue Google Play refunds ourselves.
  • Web (Stripe): If you're not satisfied, email support@texasflyfishingjournal.com within 14 days of purchase for a full refund, no questions asked. Please send the request from, or include, the email address on your account. Refunds go back to the original payment method; how quickly they appear depends on your bank, typically 5 to 10 business days.
  • After 14 days, we review web refund requests case by case, for example a duplicate charge or a Pro feature that doesn't work for you and that we can't fix.
  • When a purchase is refunded on any platform, Pro features are removed from the account. Your journal, catches, trips, and photos are not affected, and the free journal keeps working.
  • Nothing in this section limits any rights you may have under applicable law.

7. Prohibited Uses

You may not:

  • Upload harmful, illegal, or offensive content
  • Submit fraudulent, fabricated, or manipulated catch data or photos to the leaderboard
  • Attempt to game or circumvent the AI verification or moderation system
  • Deliberately log false catch data to manipulate or skew AI-generated outputs such as Pattern Insights, Trip Planner, Waterbody Matchmaker, Trip Debrief, or Gear Suggestion results
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the AI classifier or any part of the App
  • Use automated scripts or bots to scrape or interact with the App
  • Attempt to access other users' data or circumvent security controls
  • Use the App in any manner that violates applicable laws

8. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Texas.
